Monozygotic twins look strikingly similar - so similar that one twin may easily be identified from a picture of the other. The reason for this is that monozygotic twins originate from the same cell, and hence have the exact same genetic makeup. The goal of this study is to extract the genetic variation responsible for the facial characteristics and enable the reconstruction of a portrait from a given set of such markers - which could have been identified in the DNA extracted from a biological sample found at a crime scene.
