AVIAN BLOOD BANK OF THE ZOOLOGOCAL MUSEUM AND ZOOLOGICAL INSTITUTE, UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN. Welcome to the database of blood and tissue samples in the collections of the Zoological Museum and the Zoological Institute at the University of Copenhagen. Data can be obtained by anonymous ftp on virus.fki.dth.dk (129.142.74.40). Login as user anonymous and use your email address as password, change directory to pub/blood. The file aves.* contains the data in an uncompressed version, while aves.*.Z is compressed, and aves.*.gz is gzipped (remember to use binary ftp when transfering the compressed version). To obtain aliquots of the samples please contact Peter Arctander, Institute of Zoology, or Jon Fjeldsa both University of Copenhagen, Universitetsparken 15, DK-2100 , phone: +45 3532 1310 or 3532 1031, fax: +45 3532 1300 or e-mail: poppa@virus.fki.dth.dk. Samples can usually easily be aliquoted, but as it is a kind of 'destructive sampling' we ask you to please describe your project and outline your experience in DNA work so we have a background for our decission whether to send you the samples. The material can only be used for projects that are agreed to by us. All excess material and DNA shall be send back to us and no material or DNA can be handed on to other investigators without our written consent. Please aknowledge the collection when data derived from its samples are published. Tissue (blood or muscle) is in either 10% EDTA, 1%NaF, traces of Thymol or in 25% DMSO in saturated NaCl. They are stable at room temperature and will therefore be send by ordinary mail. Peter Arctander Jon Fjeldsa 7. juli 1993
