A DNA Structural Atlas of Escherichia coli
Cluster analysis of 4,288 predicted genes in the E. coli K-12 genome.

Where are the clusters located on the E. coli chromosome?
Cluster 1 (987 genes, 253 of which have no known function) is correlated with regions low in "position preference" measure, and appears to be localised near regions of highly expressed proteins and rRNAs. Cluster 2 (1986 genes, 520 of which have no known function) is scattered throughout the chromosome. Cluster 3 (48 genes, 15 of which have no known function) is associated with AT-rich regions, whilst Cluster 5 (93 genes, 47 of which have no known function) is associated with GC rich regions. Finally, Cluster 4 (1376 genes, 568 of which have no known function) is associated with curved regions, and has a slight preference for the region around replication termination.
