It is the purpose of the lecture for you to learn the following:


1. To know the different types of possible DNA symmetry elements, and to be able to explain their structures and biological meanings.

2. To know what is meant by the "C-value paradox", and to be able to discuss possible explanations for this conundrum.

3. To be able to discuss at least 4 different roles of DNA as biological information, apart from coding for proteins.

  • DNA "codes" for various structural RNAs
  • protein binding sites
  • architectural information
  • stability information
