Chapter 5b
DNA Replication

Learning Objectives:

1. To understand how DNA replicates; this involves knowing the complimentary base-pairing of the DNA sequences, and that replication is "semi-conservative".  (pages 182-186).

2. To know the different types of replication possible for circular and linear DNA molecules.  (pages 186-191).

3. To be able to describe the different types of proteins involved in DNA replication. In particular, you should know the purposes of the following proteins:

  • Topoisomerase
  • Helicase
  • SSB proteins
  • DNA Polymerase III
  • RNA Primase
  • DNA ligase
