Welcome to my webpage
My name is Jose Maria (Txema) Gonzalez Izarzugaza and I am Associate Professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). I am a computational biologist in the Integrative Systems Biology group, headed by Prof. Søren Brunak at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis (CBS).

I have a profound interest in the analysis of next generation sequencing (NGS) data. I am actively involved in the Genome Denmark initiative. There are two main projects under this platform. First, in the Pangenome team we are assembling and annotating the first draft of the Danish reference genome. Second, the Cancer and Pathogens working group we aim to identify viruses driving cancer onset. In addition to these, I am currently involved in many other projects. For example, the prediction of the pathogenicity of mutations in the protein kinase superfamily for the Pancancer project in collaboration with The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC).

During the past few years, I have had the incredible opportunity to be an active member of some of the most renowned computational biology groups in Europe. I have worked with Prof. Alfonso Valencia both at the Spanish National Research Centre (CNIO) and the Spanish National Center for Biotechnology (CNB-CSIC), I have collaborated closely with Prof. Christine A. Orengo's group at the University College London (UCL) and I am currently learning my way towards seniority at Prof. Søren Brunak's group at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis (CBS). It is both a honor and an enormous pleasure to be part of these cutting-edge scientific environments.
